It's been a thrill a minute around here lately. We are in a sort of "crunch time", as we try to finish up a number of projects before the new baby arrives. Let's check in on some of the heart-stopping action...
Watching grass grow. Tell me, does it get more exciting than this? We had 4 cubic yards of topsoil dumped in our driveway recently, which we then hauled (wheelbarrow-full by wheelbarrow-full) to various spots in the yard. We used some in our new raised planter beds, and the rest to repair some of the damage done to our lawn by dogs, kids, and weather. The "we" who did the hauling was mainly me, with some eleventh-hour help from Matt. FYI, according to the folks at wikipedia (who would never steer you wrong!), 4 yards of soil = about 6 tons. That's a whole lot of dirt. Dirt. Dirt that I had to pay money for. How suburban is that?Watching concrete dry. As you saw in the last post, we had to pour a new front step. The "we" who did most of the work on this project was our own Big Daddy. You would think it would be pretty simple to pour a 4' by 4' square of ordinary concrete. You would be wrong. The dang thing took the entire weekend to do. On the plus side, we have greatly added to our knowledge of the finer details of pouring concrete.
Well, that'll have to be enough excitement for one post. We still have a few big projects to go, so stay tuned for more fun and follies!
